About Daudi Okelo and Jildo Irwa
Daudi Okelo and Jildo Irwa were two young catechists who were martyred in 1918 for their role in teaching the new religion of Christianity in Paimol, Agago Northern Uganda. The two martyrs were beatified by his holiness Pope John Paul II on the 20th of October, 2002 which is also their feast day.
Officially opened in 2015, the wiPolo Martyrs Shrine attracts more than 35,000 people yearly; the bulk of those being Pilgrims who make their way to the center of Daudi Okelo and Jildo Irwa’s martyrdom in Paimol, Agago on the 20th October which is the designated feast day of the two young catechists.
